Mark Olberding

Attorney at Law

Mark Olberding, is not your typical attorney. I understand that with such a broad spectrum of legal issues, people are looking for someone who understands their specific needs – not a lawyer that takes any case that happens to walk through the door. I specialize in Family Law, Adoptions, Criminal Defense and Juvenile Law.

I have been practicing law in Nevada, Story, Marshall, Boone, Hamilton and Hardin counties for over 30 years and for the last 20 plus years as the owner of the Olberding Law Office. As I specialize in family law and criminal defense, I have broad experience with divorce, paternity, child custody and support, property and debt divisions, adoptions, child in need of assistance, juvenile delinquency cases and all levels of criminal defense. As an adoptive parent myself, I feel a special connection to helping people through the adoption process.

My office is located at 1129 5th Street, Nevada, Iowa. It is located just off of Lincoln Highway on 5th Street and is southeast of the Dairy Queen. The office is a two story red brick four square former house with a glassed in front porch building and a handicap ramp.

Normal business hours are from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Monday through Friday, Saturdays by appointment. The office’s telephone number is (515) 382-6955; fax is (515) 382-6743. The email address is:

I practice primarily in Story County, however, I also take cases in Marshall, Boone, Jasper, Hamilton and Hardin counties. I do not take cases in Polk County. I do not take cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, employment law, civil rights, malpractice or bankruptcy

I graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 1986 and have been in Nevada ever since. Currently I am admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa. I am a member of the Iowa State Bar Association (Family and Juvenile Law Section and Criminal Law Section), the Story County Bar Association and the Iowa Public Defender’s Association. I was an officer in the United States Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corp from 1989 to 2004 with an honorable discharge as a Major.
